Boy Scout Troop 505

Boy Scouts of America
Three Fires Council, Thunderbird District

Fundraisers

The Troop is entirely funded by the Scouts and their families. The funding comes from yearly dues and fund-raising activities. The Troop’s main fundraiser is our spring Pancake Breakfast. Scouts and their families are required to participate by working at the Pancake Breakfast. Additionally, all Scouts are expected to sell a minimum quantity of tickets and/or advertisements established by the Troop committee. The current minimum is 10 tickets.

In addition to the Pancake Breakfast, Troop 505 has optional popcorn and wreath sales. These are optional fundraisers for Scouts that would like to earn additional money for their escrow account.

We have also re-started the toner and ink jet cartridge recycling with all the funds from this program going into the scouts escrow account.  For more information see this form

Message to the TROOP

We are at the beginning of our new Scout / School year. And along with that comes our fund raising programs. We recently kicked off the Popcorn Sales and have Wreath sales coming up soon. And then we wrap it all up with our Annual Pancake breakfast in February.

This year, unlike in previous years, we're asking ALL Scouts participate in the different fundraisers.

Let me explain why. A couple years ago, the Troop recognized that we had several thousand dollars more than we needed and that money was not serving the Scouts if it was sitting in a bank. So we "spent down" the extra money by subsidizing campouts, events, and other Troop activities. We also increased the percent of fundraising profits that went into the boys’ escrow accounts. We believed this “spending down” had the highest impact for the most Scouts.

I can report we were very successful in our efforts.

That brings us to the current year. We're now in a financial position where we ALL need to work a little to keep the Troop moving forward. As we have grown, so have our needs (more equipment, more rank patches, etc. etc.). To give you an idea of the Troop’s needs, we incurred about $12,000 in expenses last year and expect a similar amount this year.
In that past we've simply encouraged the boys to sell, maybe with an emphasis more on building their own Escrow accounts than that of serving the Troop. Well, now we need to refocus on the Troops’ needs as well.

In the past only about 60% of the scouts helped the troop by participating in fundraisers. With our funds being lower than we’d like we need to ask EVERY Scout to participate in the fund raising efforts this year. We're confident that together we can all help raise the funding the Troop needs, in order to continue to provide the high level of programming we've all enjoyed.

Thanks!

Troop 505 Pancake Breakfast

February 11, 2012 7:00 am --1:00 pm

  • Our biggest fundraiser of the year!
  • Over 600 people will be served!
  • Portion of each scout’s sales credited
    to his escrow account!

What Do You Need to Do?

  • Sell tickets to family and friends – each scout should sell
at least 10 tickets to help the troop
  • Sell placemat ads to local businesses
  • Solicit donations for our door prize drawing
  • Work at least one shift during the event
    – all scouts and one adult from each family must participate

It is again time to prepare for our most fun and largest fundraiser of the Scouting year. You will receive at a troop meeting  a packet of instructions, tickets and information including date and time of the event.

Sell tickets to family and friends – each scout should sell at least 10 tickets to help the troop If family, friends or strangers don't want to attend the delicious and nutritious breakfast, ask them to make a contribution for the tickets and we will give them to a needy family in our community, like we did last year.

Troop meetings will have sign up posters for each Scout to sign up himself and one parent to participate in this year's Pancake Breakfast. It is mandatory again for each Scout and one parent to assist with the execution of this event. We will have openings for Friday night's set-up, three shifts on Saturday including but not limited to the closing shift for cleanup. Please keep one of these dates or shifts available as it is Trustworthy, Loyal, and Kind that each Scout and a parent equally participate.. There are other duties which need to be filled such as donation seeking, obtaining prizes for the drawings, and more for those who wish to be a part of the committee.

Thanks for everyone's cooperation in making this a rewarding fundraiser for Troop 505. Fund raising allows us to offset campout expenses, expand our aging equipment and provide our Scouts with the best Scouting experience they can possibly have. As with other fundraisers, boys escrow accounts will be credited with % of the profits from their sales.

    Troop 505 Wreath Sale

Remember, Wreath Sale order forms are due by Oct. 17th to Oct. 24th, no later than the 24th.. These fresh evergreen wreaths and other decorating items are really beautiful and selling them is a great way for your son to add to his escrow account!  The more he sells, the more he earns!

Have your son contact Ginger Ovens (gbovens@wideopenwest.com) if he would like to staff a table at Knox Sunday morning services on October 16 or October 23 from 9:45 am – noon.  If he volunteers for this, you also MUST to come Sunday morning, November 20 to deliver the wreaths he took orders for.  Note that some wreaths ordered on Sunday mornings may need to be delivered by the sellers to individual homes if the customer can't pick them up on November 20.
